What Is a Smart Bike House?
A smart bike house is a smart access control system for enclosed bicycle storage facilities such as bike rooms, bike houses, and bike garages. It replaces traditional physical keys and fobs with app-based entry, allowing residents and commuters to unlock doors via their smartphone or local transportation card. Each installation is IoT-connected via 4G cellular connectivity, enabling real-time usage monitoring, remote door control, and CCTV camera integration from a centralized Bikeep Cloud Platform. Facility managers gain full visibility into occupancy, access logs, and security alerts without on-site visits. In a deployment for Baerum Municipality in Norway, Bicycle Coordinator Havard Eriksson reported that after upgrading to Bikeep's integrated access control and smart bike racks in May 2023, the cycling hotel grew to 200 registered users, representing approximately 60% growth in cycling adoption within five months. Bærum Municipality - Norway
In 2023, Baerum Municipality in Norway faced persistent theft and vandalism at their public cycling hotel, eroding trust among local cyclists.
